May 30
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land,” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
On the secular calendar, today is designated as Memorial Day in our beloved land. Originally, the date was May 30, and it was also called Decoration Day. It is the day to honor all who served in the past and all who are now serving in the various branches of the military forces and to remember those who died in any of the wars in which American citizens served. It is a day when we place flowers upon or otherwise decorate the graves of departed loved ones.
Unfortunately, for many Americans, Memorial Day is meaningless as far as remembering its original purpose. For many people it is just another three-day weekend without reporting for work, but often with pay, and a day for traveling or relaxing.
We are living in difficult times. The moral standards set by God are being desecrated. For example, at the present time, the Supreme Court is being asked to redefine marriage so that people of the same sex can live together as if they were husband and wife and can claim to be married. Efforts are being made to destroy the family, the basic unit of society.
Marriage is not a human institution, and its essence will not be determined by the members of the Supreme Court or by any other judge or by the voters of any State! Marriage was instituted by God as the lifelong union of one man and one woman to live together as husband and wife. Let us humbly remember that the Commandments of God are not to be altered to satisfy people’s sinful desires. The Commandments were written in stone!
On this Memorial Day, we think of the blessings which we enjoy by the grace of God in our beloved land. If we want to continue to enjoy the blessings of God, then it is important for us to remember the Word of God for us and for any other nation.
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Let us humbly bow our heads and pray and seek the gracious face of God and turn from our wicked ways.
Let us trust God’s promise. He will hear from heaven and forgive our sins and heal our land. Let us put our trust in the Gospel message. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life,” Romans 5:8-10. Jesus did not suffer and die to save perfect people. He suffered and died to save sinners. Firmly believe that, “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin,” 1 John 1:7. Then live a life that witnesses for such faith.
Lord, while for all mankind we pray, Of ev’ry clime and coast,
Oh, hear us for our native land, The land we love the most!
Lord of the nations, thus to Thee, Our country we commend.
Be Thou her Refuge and her Trust, Her everlasting Friend. Amen.
