“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist,” Colossians 1:15-17.
How does God reveal Himself? He revealed Himself in the creation of all things that are in heaven and on earth. Every person with common sense knows that the earth and all things in it could not possibly have come into existence by itself.
The Big Bang theory and all the other man-made theories of evolution are not conclusions at which people arrive through scientific evidence based on honest research. The Big Bang does not go back to a beginning. What existed before the Big Bang which enabled it to bang? It is a theory of total nonsense!
Do you really want some words of wisdom about God revealing Himself? Then go to His holy Word as written in Holy Scripture. In his Epistle to the Romans, the apostle Paul wrote, “What may be known of God is manifest in them (that is, the Gentiles), for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,” Romans 1:19-20. God’s attributes are clearly seen in the creation. Don’t be blinded by your own limited wisdom.
A thousand years before Jesus was born, the psalmist wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork,” Psalm 19:1. Through the seasons, through the sun and the moon and the weather, God maintains what He created. The prophet Isaiah wrote, “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,” Isaiah 40:22.
God has also revealed Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” The Son of God existed with the Father and the Holy Spirit from eternity, before anything was created. He participated in the work of creation with the Father and Holy Spirit. “By Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible . . . All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” The apostle John wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made,” John 1:1-3.
In his First Epistle, John wrote, “No one has seen God at any time,” 1 John 4:12. Likewise, in his Gospel, John wrote, “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him,” John 1:18. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, God has revealed Himself as, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,” Exodus 34:6-7. God revealed what a gracious and merciful God He is by sending the Son of God to become also a true man, who fulfilled the Law of God in our place, took all our sins upon Himself, and paid the price for our redemption on Calvary’s cross, where He shed His holy, precious blood to wash away our sins. He rose from the grave and conquered death and the devil.
We see God with the eyes of faith in the words of Holy Scripture, which records the mighty works and wonders of the triune God. We see God with the eyes of faith in Christ Jesus, in whom we put our trust and hope for time and eternity.
“Oh, for a faith that will not shrink
Tho’ pressed by many a foe;
That will not tremble on the brink
Of poverty or woe.” Amen.
