“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God,” Romans 12:2.
If you are a Christian, you do not belong to the people who think only of themselves with questions such as, “What can I do today that will benefit me? What can I do today that will make other people sit up and take note of who I am and what I do? What can I do today that will make people praise me or even envy me?” If you are a Christian, your thinking does not center chiefly around I, me, and mine!
If you are a Christian, a child of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as God’s Son and your Savior from sin, death, and the devil, then your first question will be, “How can I please my gracious, forgiving God?” You will be determined to avoid living a life that is “conformed to this world.” By the power of the Holy Spirit working through the word of the Gospel, you will be transformed. You will have a new mind and a new heart, whereby you will know what is good and acceptable to God.
You will want to test everything in the light of God’s Word. Of course, that means that you will have to read and study His Word. If you have not searched God’s Word frequently in the past, please don’t sit and cry and complain. Look to the Lord Jesus and trust that His blood shed on Calvary’s cross has washed away your sins of neglect.
Behold the Lord standing before you with outstretched arms, inviting and calling, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light,” Matthew 11:28-30.
As you search and study God’s Word, remember that the Holy Spirit will touch your heart and invite you, “Only believe!” Trust God’s precious promises, and share them with others with whom you come into contact.
Please bow your head and pray in the words of the hymn writer:
My Maker, be Thou nigh the light of life to give,
And guide me with Thine eye while here on earth I live.
To Thee my heart I tender and all my powers surrender;
Make it my one endeavor to love and serve Thee ever.
Upon Thy promise I rely; my Maker, be Thou nigh.
My Savior, wash me clean with Thy most precious blood,
That takes away all sin and seals my peace with God.
My soul in peace abideth when in Thy wounds it hideth.
There I find full salvation and freedom from damnation.
Without Thee lost, defiled by sin, my Savior, wash me clean. Amen.
May God bless your day!
